A rickshaw puller is a man who
pulls rickshaw for money. He is a very familiar figure in a city or a town. He
usually hires a rickshaw from the owner on daily basis. Sometimes he may have
his own rickshaw. A rickshaw puller toils hard in the sun and in the rain. The
work of a rickshaw puller is very risky in a busy city of town. Sometimes he violates
the traffic rules. Therefore, he may fall a victim to a serious accident.
However, a rickshaw puller earns barely enough to live from hand to mouth. Really he has to
lead a very hard and miserable life. His demands are very few. If he can manage
two square meals and coarse cloth for himself and his family members, he
becomes happy. But if he becomes sick, his family has to go without food. A
rickshaw puller generally lives in slum area. He is deprived of the basic needs
of human life. His service is great because we get him near at hand whenever we
need him. But what does he get in return? If, any time, he demands a little
more money, most of us show very rude and harsh behaviour to him. Can't we be a
little more generous to him? Is he not a much better man than that so-called
gentleman who steals the money of the country and the countrymen? Is there no
dignity in his laborious living?
